One of the most asked questions I get all the time is “What anti-virus software should I use to protect me from all those infections.” My answer us always the same: if it exists, I have not encountered it yet. I removed all kinds of infections on too many computers to remember. I have seen all of the anti-virus software installed, sometimes more than one at a time, and yet the computer would get infected anyway. These days, it is not the viruses that are the problem, but the spyware and malware. Unfortunately nothing can stop it. People that write malware are very highly financially motivated. Some sources say that malware is a trillion dollar industry. Nothing can beat that. The only way to beat it is not to get infected in the first place. I know it sounds silly and over simplistic. But, if you stay on the main road of the Internet and visit reputable sites, you will be safer than if you stray to some places with questionable locations. If you see an e-mail from someone you do not recognize, please delete it. If you see a post on your Facebook from someone you do not know, please do not click on that link.
If, despite all those precautions you still got infected, immediately turn off your computer and call someone you know and trust to clean it. If you do not know what you are doing, you can potentially make things worse.
